For this recipe, I prefer to use canned plum tomatoes since using fresh requires more time and preparation; however, either fresh or canned can be used. Ensure the tomatoes you intend to use are ripe and in season if you are utilizing fresh tomatoes.

I prefer Rienzi brand tomatoes for the canned tomatoes.

Ingredients for Marinara Sauce:

One-fourth cup of extra virgin olive oil.

You can use anywhere from 4 to however many garlic cloves you like, peeled and chopped.

One can of whole plum tomatoes with liquid, weighing 35 ounces.

Add salt to your food to your desired level of flavor.

Add crushed red pepper to taste, or if you prefer, you can use black pepper.

Tear 10 - 12 fresh basil leaves.

Half a teaspoon of dried oregano.
